Boating Season is Over. Now What?

Below is a guide for the eager boater who cannot wait until the next boating season.

The end of boating season can be a sad time. If you're like us, boating is a big component of your life and gives you something to look forward to all summer long! Now it's time to put your boat into hibernation as you dream about the next time you get to explore the open waters.

Here are some tips to help you with the Winter Boating Blues.

1) Visit boat shows and boating related trade shows

Depending on where you live, you can visit the Toronto International Boat Show in January, or the Vancouver International Boat Show in February. There are many other boats and cottage shows you can visit like Ottawa, Kingston, Barrie, Cottage Life Show, etc.

These shows can be inspirational or help you be excited about the upcoming boating season. Besides showcasing some of the newest and coolest boats on the market, you will also find markets with businesses that sell everything you could dream of to outfit your boat.

On top of that, you will be surrounded by like-minded people. You might meet some new boating friends and plan a new summer getaway with a group of boaters, or learn about some cool spots to visit.

2) Start shopping for your dream boat

Have you thought about the next boat you want? Winter is a great time to do some research and explore boat listings. You might come across your dream boat, and just maybe - the price will be irresistible. You can also contact our brokerage team to get a value on your current boat - we will help you list your boat for sale (and get it sold), and help you buy your dream boat!

Regardless, searching boat listings is a ton of fun!

3) Enjoy a winter hobby

Probably the best way to kill time is to enjoy a winter hobby. Obviously depending on where you are in Canada will determine what is available to you, but many Canadians enjoy skating, hockey, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, winter hiking, and vacationing in tropical destinations.

If you find yourself soaking up the sun at a tropical location, consider chartering a boat. You'll get your boating fill, and maybe learn a few new tricks!

4) Join social media groups and research new boating destinations

There are an incredible number of social media groups and #hashtags you can follow on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Twitter. Depending on the platform, some are engaging communities of like-minded people who share boating experiences and destinations.

Other social platforms like Instagram and TikTok allow you to enjoy the content that other boaters publish. You can even share your own experiences.

If done correctly, you will find yourself learning about new destinations to explore. Then the fun begins! Grab a map, use Google, and research these destinations, plan a trip - now you have something to look forward to!

5) Think about the upgrades you want to be done to your boat

Maybe it's a new chart plotter, downriggers, refinishing the teak, or upgrading bumpers - no matter, winter is a great time to think about the items you want to be changed on your boat, and you can implement the changes.

Whether it's shopping for replacement parts, ordering new gear for your boat or working with your marina to complete upgrades, this will keep you engaged with the boating lifestyle and help the time pass!

6) Have a chat with a United City Yachts Broker

We love talking about boating! Give us a call and talk about your boat. Our brokers are boating experts and have a lot of knowledge.
